About a year ago I was very involved in many things, volunteering for multiple organizations, raising three kids (two who were involved in sports or programs) and trying to keep up my own daily household tasks. We, myself included, try to justify being such busy-bodies by making excuses why we spend so much time doing all of these other things in our lives. Things that are not really making us happy. We pack so many events and things to do on our schedules every day. Why do we do this? Why do we feel the need to stay so incredibly busy that we don't have a moment to just sit back and enjoy the little things that can truly make us happy?
I don't know about you, but for me happiness comes to me in these simplicities:
*Waking up in the morning and sitting on the porch enjoying a hot cup of coffee.
*The sound of an amazing song that sends me into a trans.
*Creating something beautiful on a canvas, even though I'm not a great artist.
*Watching my children play together.
*Just sitting in the front yard with friends.
*Having amazing conversations that really make you think,
*Listening to old stories.
*Taking a warm bath and smelling the amazing oils I have put into it.
*Kissing someone so long that I just start to melt.
*Long, loving hugs from people I care about.
* Staring into the dark sky and seeing the moon and stars shine so incredibly bright.
This list can go on forever, but I can tell you the trend. None of them have anything to do with anything extravagant. Or by me having to be a million different places all the time. I can do all of these from the comfort of my own area. Don't get me wrong, I still love to venture out, I like meeting new people and being involved in activities. I've just slowly learned not to over schedule myself or my children. Say "no" to things that I know I wouldn't enjoy. And most of all, just let myself be. Over time I have grown to love the small things in life that I didn't have time for before because I was literally so busy that I couldn't stop and smell the roses. I urge you all to take a few moments today and do something simple.
